Hawthorn is a fast-growing, flowering, deciduous, native hedge which is a haven for wildlife
In Spring, green leaves and an abundance of scented, white blossoms appear which turn into red fruits or haws in autumn. It also has sharp thorns making it an effective barrier around the garden.
It is a wonderful support for many species of insects and birds, so always check for nesting birds before pruning.
It is suitable for normal, clay or chalk soil in full sun or semi-shade for inland, coastal or exposed sites
Growth rate = 40-60cm per year
